Festive Fun in Yorkshire for 2021

Welcome to ‘what’s on in our area: Festive edition’. There is so much to entertain the family this festive season with a whole host of public events.  Think Santa experiences, festive markets, ice-skating, light shows, unique festivals and celebrations to be enjoyed in this very special county. 

Please check before you go.  As with all exploring, some of our ‘What’s on’ suggestions will be brilliant, some will give you completely new experiences, and others may be a disappointment. 

Whitby Christmas Festival 

26-28 November

This festive event includes fireworks on 27th November and a stunning street theatre installation, consisting of a 12m high inflatable arch illuminated with atmospheric colour projections, as well as performances from aerial artists.

Victorian Weekend at Robin Hood’s Bay 

3-5 December

This event will include:

Carols in the dock – Art and Craft Fair – The Animated Objects Theatre Company Lantern Trail and Workshop – Birds of Prey.

Christmas Artisan Market (Scarborough)

5 December

This event is organised by Etsy North Yorkshire (Royal Hotel, St Nicholas St, Scarborough) 5 December 10.30 – 4.30pm.

Scarborough Ice Rink

3 December-2 January – North St Car Park

Open daily 11am-8pm (Sundays 10am-7pm) and includes designated times for quieter skating and lower sensory activity – see website for more details.

Scarborough Sparkle

26-28 November

‘Scarborough Sparkle’ at Scarborough Open Air Theatre Nprth Bay a free three-day festive market event with a synthetic ice rink, fairground rides, festive stalls.

North Bay Railway Santa Specials (Scarborough)

A very special train ride on the North Bay Railway to ‘Lapland’ and a photo opportunity on Santa’s sleigh.

Christmas Adventure Quest

(English Heritage)

Follow the trail, find the clues and discover the Abbey’s amazing secrets.  Wed-Sun 27 November-23 December and daily from 28 December-2 January 10-5pm.

Christmas in Narnia at Castle Howard

13 November-3 January

A series of theatrical installations, lighting, projection and soundscapes will take over the lavishly decorated Castle Howard with the iconic 25 foot Christmas tree with over 3000 baubles being a festive highlight in the Great Hall.
